Tanzania is one of the countries privileged to have access to sea that gives it an advantage to enjoy coastal areas. However the coastal environment has been facing a number of challenges, one being deforestation. Zanzibar environmental volunteers is a local-based organization which is committed to protect and restore mangrove forest in the Isles. Mangrove trees that are expected to stretch along coastlines are important as animal habitats and natural seawalls. However, despite this reality Mangrove Forests are among the most threatened habitats in various countries. These trees may be disappearing more quickly than other inland forests than expected. Experts are informing us that, the outcome of disappearing mangroves will result in fisheries declines, Threats to migratory bird species, degradation of clean water supplies, Erosion and land subsidence. Sea forest: This project is an initiative that aims to contribute to conservation of coastal environment to ensure sustainability of Islands.
