Mafia Youth Mission Center (MMYC) is a community-based facility designed to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for young people. It offers a range of activities and programs that foster personal growth, social development, and recreational opportunities for youth. It is designed to be welcoming and inclusive space, offering a place for young people to connect with peers, access resources, and develop new skills. The Center is implementing a program “Child right to education” with the aim of promoting Children’s inclusive education, equality and confidence building. The program supports as well the campaign to end gender-based violence, early marriage and forced marriages.

The project is using sports as a tool to encourage children, teens and youth to acquire knowledge and skills useful to increase and access performance in education. Activities and approaches that volunteers will engage fully or partially will includes: -
• Promote education inclusion: To assist in selection of activities that can be adapted for all children and teens, such as inclusive team sports or modified individual activities. This will increase accessibility for children or teens with disabilities and break down various barriers.
• Focus on fair play and teamwork: Assist in preparing activities like games that emphasize sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and teamwork help build character. Sports like soccer for boys and girls will be organized.
• Prioritize fun and personal development: Activities that are purely for fun and play, such as athletics and dancing to allow children to develop physically and emotionally without the pressure of winning.
• Encourage age-appropriate participation: Assist in preparing activities suitable for different age groups and physical development levels, such as modified versions of sports or a wider variety of activities.
• Foster social and emotional growth: Assist in planning activities like basketball or climbing can help children develop leadership skills, self-esteem, and form better relationships with peers and adults.
• Creative workshops: Assist in preparation of creative workshop before or after sports that increase skills and knowledge in the importance of education for their future.
• Remedial class: Provide support for primary and secondary schools on remedial class
• Givin in: Each volunteer is requested to bring and support the center with sport equipment. (It can be new or used soccer ball, basketball, sports cloth/shoes for children and ten, jumping ropes any other sports and game you might think useful for the project)
Konaklama ve Yemek
Accommodation will be at the Youth hostel. Volunteers should expect to share rooms with other volunteers. There is also option of camping outside especially when received good number of volunteers. Three meals will be provided at accommodation where volunteer will enjoy actively participation in meals preparation, dish washing and kitchen cleaning. For sustainability reasons, we will consume only food available in the area/Region. However vegetarian meals will be available.

Mafia Island is a Tanzanian archipelago in the Indian Ocean known for its pristine environment, rich marine life, and peaceful, less-touristy atmosphere. It is known as well as a premier destination for diving and snorkeling in the protected Mafia Island Marine Park facilitating and boasting diverse coral reefs and fish species, and is also a popular spot for whale shark sightings. The population of Mafia Island is estimated to be 66,180 people based on the 2022 census data. The majority of the residents are fishermen or smallholder farmers, with the main town being Kilindoni.
Mafia Island is accessible by both Air and water transportation. Flights primarily depart from Dar es Salaam's Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) to Mafia Airport (MFA), a journey of approximately 30-40 minutes. The ferry departs from Nyamisati village on the mainland to Kilindoni sea Port in Mafia Island. Mafia Island enjoys access to most social services like health, banking, Markets and business centers are available and accessible. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays may not be free for volunteers because it is the time we will have more access to the children, teen and Youth. However, your free week ends and public holidays will be compensated within week days. Volunteers are advised as well to have an allowance of extra 2-3 days before or after the project to enjoy the most of Mafia Island. The most enjoyable activities on Mafia Island are related to its abundant marine life, including swimming with whale sharks and diving in the Mafia Marine Park, but also include cultural and historical exploration, such as visiting the Kua Ruins and the lighthouse at Ras Mkumbi. Relaxation on the beaches, taking a sunset cruise, or kayaking are also popular option.

Online Visa applicants are advised to make their applications through the Official Tanzania Immigration website www.immigration.go.tz . Ordinary visa with humanitarian and charity activities (A6) is recommended. Volunteer with no relevant visa will not be accepted to join the project.
