In Tanzania, as in any other countries around the world, the topic of sustainable living has become a hot discussion. However, many people may have heard about sustainable living but are not sure exactly what it means. Lack of knowledge and exposure have significantly increased lifestyles that cause more environmental and health damage for future generations to deal with. Organic garden |Sustainable kitchen is an initiative aiming to promote organic gardening to sustain kitchen supplies. The project focuses on advocating for small-scale or back yard gardening which is affordable even by people who do not own land. The result of this initiative is to enable the household to have a sufficient supply of vegetables and fruits free from toxic, reducing cost of life by utilizing small backyard spaces to produce food.

Volunteers will assist in establishment/management of tree nursery; management of the herbal & medicinal plant garden for education and demonstration; maintenance of the demonstration organic vegetable garden; composting activities for organic garden and education; organizing educational activities on sustainable living & healthy eating; and join African kitchen class using backyard supplies.

Accommodation will be in a residential house in the eco-village. Basic accommodation facilities like water, electricity and toilets will be available. Rooms will be shared. Food will be provided at the project designated site. Volunteers with special dietary requirements are advised to provide information before arrival.

Chamazi is a small community located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam. It is a newly developed community making it cross cultural hosting people from various parts of the country as well all walks of life. Within this community UVIKIUTA Eco-village project is established where various activities are taking place. The distance from the airport and the city center is about 35 km respectively. We have a lot to enjoy at the Eco-village including walking in woods and other sports, traditional meals and entertainments, there is also a possibility to visit the National Museum, village museum, city tour. More activities include Dar es Salaam Zoo, swimming and beach activities, and visiting the close by Mikuni or Selous National Park. A night in Zanzibar during weekends has always been an option.
