The province of Manica is located in the central interior of Mozambique, bordering Zimbabwe to the west. Like other provinces, it has suffered the direct impacts of climate change, having been battered by cyclones Idai and Kenneth, and was also affected by a long period of drought known as the El Niño effect. And in the 2025–2026 rainy season, as in other seasons, many houses were destroyed by floodwaters and winds due to the precarious conditions in which they are built, a fact that has prompted AJOV Mozambique to plan a Workcamping project on resilient construction for the districts of Chimoio and Susundenga.
The program will engage about 20 volunteers who will be working together with communities to empower and support disadvantaged families, especially widows, the elderly, people with disabilities, orphaned children, and heads of households in the construction of houses that are resilient to floods .
1. Empower local communities to build resilient, low-cost houses;
2. Build at least 280 resilient houses using local, low-cost materials;
3. Build three classrooms that are resilient to the effects of rain and wind;
4. Construct one low-cost rainwater harvesting system;
5. Support training on energy-efficient stoves and soil conservation.

Accommodation will be in community houses and tents. A large shared room will be divided into men’s and women’s spaces. Volunteers will take turns cooking.
