In an idyllic setting with a breathtaking view of the iconic Fort Boyard, this workcamp invites you to take part in the consolidation of an exceptional historic site: the Redoute de l’Aiguille, recognized as the largest redoubt in France. Far more than a heritage preservation project, this stay will be a powerful human experience, combining intercultural exchanges and a shared commitment to peacebuilding alongside local residents. At the mouth of the Charente River, the Fouras peninsula unfolds its three harbors and five beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean, offering a privileged natural environment where sea, nature, and history meet in harmony. The municipality of Fouras-les-Bains and the association Maison des Bateleurs – Solidarités Jeunesses are renewing their partnership to continue the restoration of this remarkable monument in a spirit of solidarity and collective action.

You will work for 6-hour during the mornings on the restoration of a new section of the interior of the Redoubt. Your tasks will include biological cleaning (removing vegetation from the façade and parapets), followed by repointing with traditional lime mortar. Other specialized masonry tasks are planned, such as restoring stone coping and practicing stone cutting. In addition, you will take part in workshops raising awareness of interculturality and sustainable development. No previous experience is required; local technical leaders will guide you through these traditional techniques.

Collective accommodation in tents at a 3-star campsite in Fouras (equipped with a swimming pool, multisports area, Wi-Fi, and snack bar). Please do not forget to bring a warm sleeping bag and a pillow. Bicycles will be provided for all your trips around the town. Food will be provided for all meals. A food budget will be managed by the camp leaders, and meals will be prepared in turns by the participants. In line with our values, we prioritize local resources and respect cultural diversity, offering hot, cold, vegetarian, and vegan options.

Location : Fouras-les-Bains (17450), Charente-Maritime, 20 km from La Rochelle.
Leisure : You will have the opportunity to enjoy many water-based activities, such as fishing or sailing, in partnership with local clubs. The beach, seaside cycling, and pétanque also await you. You can visit several museums and nearby historic towns such as La Rochelle and Rochefort. Key moments of the stay will be dedicated to meeting local residents, particularly during a shared international meal.
