Enjoy working with with construction and using your hands for artistic work? Join us this April 2024 in Soshanguve, Pretoria, and be part of our efforts to establish construction work for our after school center. You'll assist in organizing engaging construction activities and also after school work in the afternoon such as English lessons, arts and crafts, theatre etc.
The Construction Work Camp focuses on assisting in building a SAVWA community center, which will cater to the local community and future volunteers. Activities include:
• Brickmaking.
• Wall construction.
• Plastering and mixing cement.
• Other local construction activities.
This project aims to finish the wall surrounding the center, in collaboration with community members and well-wishers. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the community while interacting with locals and children after school.
Additionally, volunteers will actively contribute to the development of an construction ideas for our Center. Through this platform, we'll craft captivating acttions and thought-provoking ideas, and captivating samples on subjects like volunteering, embracing cultural diversity, and other pertinent themes. We're looking for passionate people like you to help us create these activities. As a volunteer, you'll bring your fresh ideas and creativity to shape the curriculum and plan exciting activities too. Working together with other volunteers, you'll create an unforgettable experience that will change the lives of local youth forever.

Accommodation
Volunteers will share accommodation with fellow participants, fostering a sense of community and connection. The housing is conveniently located near public transportation, shops, and various entertainment facilities, ensuring easy access to essential amenities and leisure activities. The space is fully equipped with modern comforts, including cozy bunk beds with fresh linens, essential toiletries, cutlery, and furniture to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
What to Bring
• Sleeping Essentials: A sleeping bag for added comfort.
• Personal Care: Sun cream and mosquito spray/lotion.
• Footwear: Comfortable sandals and sturdy shoes for different activities.
• Clothing: Light, practical clothing for working hours and warm clothes for chilly nights, along with a raincoat for unexpected weather.
• Tools and Extras: A torch or flashlight, and if possible, arts and cultural items like drums or other musical instruments to engage children. You may also bring sports equipment such as soccer balls or board games to enrich the activities

South African cuisine reflects a blend of traditional African dishes and flavors brought by Indian, Dutch, Malay, and British influences, making every meal an adventure for your taste buds.

Soshanguve is a township situated about 30 km north of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, just east of Mabopane. The name Soshanguve is an acronym for Sotho, Shangaan, Nguni and Venda, thus showing the multi-ethnic composition of the population. The major African languages of South Africa are heard in Soshanguve.
Weekends are free for volunteers to organize tours or explore the area. Activities may include:
• Visits to historical and cultural landmarks in Pretoria.
• Excursions with students to local attractions.
• Group activities to relax and bond with fellow volunteers.
