Region: Eilenburg is a small town with a population of about 17,000 people. It is located on the edge of the “Dübener Heide“ and about 25 km away from the exhibition city Leipzig. Eilenburg can easily be described as one of the cradles of Saxony because of its more than thousand-year history. It was a rich city in the medieval times and during the industrialization. At the time when Martin Luther (Founder of protestant church) lived the brewery was Eilenburgs main business and in the 19th century it was a national center of the textile industry.
In April 1945 Eilenburg was almost completely destroyed because of the Second World War. The “Sorbenturm” is the only remaining part of the Ilburg that is left as a reminder of past rich times. A path outside the castle wall connects the “Sorbenturm” with the “Amtshaus”, the former regional court. This path was renewed with the help of volunteers in the last work camps.
There are opportunities for sports on site (football, basketball, volleyball, skate Park, table tennis, billiards, darts), and swimming is also possible in the nearby swimming lake. A day trip to Leipzig is planned, including a canoe trip on the Pleiße/Elster rivers, as well as a day trip to Berlin. We will also explore the Eilenburg area, including the 800-year-old castle cellars. A raft trip on the local Mulde river can also be arranged upon request.
