Chamazi Youth center is facility owned by UVIKIUTA-Tanzania. The center serves the dual purpose of accommodating unstructured social interaction among different age groups and providing instructional classes all in a safe, supervised environment. The center offers activities and services during non-school hours to children and teens (ages 10-18), including recreation, health and fitness, citizenship and leadership development, remedial classes, Learning foreign Languages, Volunteering and counseling for problems such as drug and alcohol abuse. It is a place where various Youth and adults’ trainings and other social events are
conducted.
Global learner is an experiential program involving Tanzanian volunteers and their foreign counterpart focusing on the big questions: “Can we design sustainable communities for future?” It is aiming to bring participants to live and work together on the proposed eco village and have the opportunity to explore social, economic, spiritual and ecological issues and skills needed for developing sustainable life practices.

The project is organized along four themes:
Holistic worldview: The big picture: why do we need to be developing sustainable communities? Listening to nature, celebrating life, discerning your role and creating your dream.
▪ Ecological: Bioregionalism, defining a watershed, introduction to local food issues and permaculture techniques.
▪ Social: Building and embracing diversity, introductory communication skills.
▪ conomic: Shifting the global economy to sustainability, understanding the global versus local
argument, analyzing your ecological foot print careers in sustainability.
▪ Hands-on activities may include: Maintenance of organic vegetable gardens that will include composting activities, weeding, watering plants. Other including support on raising free range chickens’ project.

Food: Food will always provide at the project accommodation. Type of food will depend so much on what is available in the region for sustainability. However vegetarian meals will always be available. Volunteers are expected to participate in preparation of meals with their host.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in the host family within the community where basic accommodation facilities will be provided. Expect to share room with either host family member or other volunteer from the same or other projects.

Chamazi a community located about 25km South of Dar es Salaam city and almost the same distance from Julius Nyerere International airport, Dar es Salaam. Social services are available including
telecommunications, shopping centers, banking facilities, recreation sites, etc. All this makes the community attractive to live for people who are commuting to Dar es salaam city Centre for work every day. The community is accessible by public and private transport systems. Chamazi is a home of good number of health and education institutions
Weekends and public holidays are free for volunteers. For volunteers engaging for a period of one year, they
will also have full holiday of thirty days. However, volunteer has freedom to choose what they would like to do with their holidays. Options are:
▪ Historical site tours in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo
▪ Wild life safari (Mikumi and selous National Park)
▪ Blue safaris (Dar es salaam and Zanzibar)

▪ This project is good for a person who enjoys working outdoors, willing to share leadership roles, and having a sense of adventure. It is also a good experience for those who are interested to other cultures, working with teens and adults, open minded, flexible and able to work under limited resources and minimum supervision.
▪ Minimum duration to participate in medium-term voluntary service is four weeks and maximum twelve weeks
▪ This project will be starting every first Monday of a month for smooth preparation of volunteers’ welcoming and training/orientation arrangements.

▪ Medium term voluntary service volunteer is required to have Ordinary visa category A6. You can consult Tanzania Immigration website on online application procedures. UVIKIUTA will provide invitation letter and other supporting documents.
