Climate change is a situation which has been referred to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. It is has been reported several times that, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Community caravan route is an initiative by two organization (UVIKIUTA-Tanzania mainland and ZAVECO in Zanzibar Islands, and a bilateral exchange project aiming to engage young people, communities and volunteers in the coastal communities (Zanzibar) and in highlands to share knowledge and experience, raising awareness and work towards minimizing the impact of climate change. The project is targeting to involve volunteers from both geographical areas with International volunteers.

First Phase: Mbahe near Kilimanjaro National Park (21.07.2024 to 03.08.2024)
Music and Arts expressions has been used for ages in various audiences as a vehicle to deliver messages. Its role in human life needs no overemphasis since it affects all aspects of human kind. Music & Arts for community action is expected to bring volunteers with Sustainable development ideas and initiative messages to the society through the universe language of music and arts. This project aims to develop and create meaningful events and performing arts programs embodying development through culture, the natural outcome of creative people collaborating to achieve sustainable development in the world. Through sports, music and arts, the project is expecting to increase awareness on various issues affecting climate changes.

o Community action initiative: Participate in activities of Sports, arts and music to address climate change issue in the communities around Mount Kilimanjaro National Park.

o Arts and Music Workshops: Working with local artist to find meaningful way and the power of arts and music in addressing climate change issues.

o Community engagement and Exhibition: Events that are expected to attract good number of community members and people outside the community to share climate change messages through music and arts exhibitions. This might include some local cultural shows and exhibition.

Second phase: Zanzibar Islands, Tanzania: (4th August to 17th August 2024)
Mangrove forests are excellent carbon sequesters, they protect coastal regions from erosion and storms, and they provide habitats for countless organisms. However, the forests have suffered severe area losses, and here, this project is organized to engage larger population in conservation. Mangrove trees Protection for Natural Seawalls project is an initiative that aiming contribute to conservation of coastal environment to ensure sustainability of Islands hence impact positively on climate change. During this bilateral exchange project volunteers will be engaged in the following actions:-
o Collecting mangrove seeds from the forest
o Replanting mangroves in the open/ destructed areas
o Collecting non composting materials/garbage in the forest and sea show
o Environmental education and awareness
o Educational tours to various organizations working on environmental conservation and sustainability.
Konaklama ve Yemek
Accommodation will be at the community residential house. Basic accommodation facilities like water, electricity and toilets will be available. Rooms will be shared. Food will be provided at the project designated site. Volunteers with special dietary requirements are advised to provide information before arrival. Generally speaking volunteers are not expected to be guest but part of family engaging in all house chaos including food preparation.

The two communities which hosts the project are the most popular natural, historical and tourist attraction points of Tanzania. With this diverse of options, volunteer will have a good number of chooses like:-

First phase in Mbahe near Mount Kilimanjaro National Park
The word "Marangu" means a place with too many water streams. It is one of the most popular places in Tanzania. Located at the foot of Africa's tallest mountain, the quaint village of Marangu offers fascinating insight into both modern Tanzanian life and into the lives of the Chagga people who once withstood vicious Maasai raids through the ingenious use of tunnels. Majority of residents are farmers growing bananas, vegetables and coffee. Tourism is also part of activity that contribute to the economy of Marangu. The Marangu route is the most popular hiking route in Africa.

Marangu is a center of tourism in the region. It host the gate to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Some options for leisure activities are:-
o Cultural & Eco-tourism around Chagga communities in Kilimanjaro, Maasai in Arusha and the neighboring regions.
o Hiking – there is a possibility of hiking in Kilimanjaro Mountain’s nature forest.
o Wild-life safari – Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National parks.
o Mountain Climbing – Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru and others.
o Water side relaxation – Lake Chala, waterfalls etc.

Second Phase in Zanzibar
Weekends and Public holidays are always free for volunteers to take advantage of the richness in natural, cultural and tourist attraction of Zanzibar to explore. Possibilities are:-
o Exploring Zanzibar historical, natural and cultural sites. These include museums, local markets, stone town, etc.
o Enjoy wildlife and marine life. Jozani forest National Park, Blue safaris swimming, tour to small islands, variety of water sports, spice tour among many other options.

o Once a volunteer is accepted an official invitation letter from us will be issued. Our staff will be available through out to provide support in the process of visa application. Take enough time to apply the since visa process can take long.
