(Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation)
The “Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation” is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection, conservation and enhancement of nature and the countryside in Schleswig-Holstein. It acquires and manages land, supports nature conservation projects and works closely with volunteers, local authorities and other partners. Its aim is to preserve biodiversity and protect the region’s characteristic landscapes. The foundation is funded through donations, endowment funds and public grants, amongst other sources.
Freie Waldorfschule Itzehoe
(The Itzehoe Waldorf School)
The Itzehoe Waldorf School is a state-recognised independent school that operates on the basis of Rudolf Steiner’s Waldorf educational philosophy. Founded in 1985, it offers a holistic educational approach that nurtures artistic, practical and intellectual skills in equal measure. The school covers Years 1 to 12 and concludes with the Waldorf school leaving certificate or the option to obtain the general university entrance qualification (A-levels). The Itzehoe Waldorf School places great importance on close cooperation with parents and a vibrant school community.

Landscape and habitat management await you at this camp in northern Germany.
You will be working in the Nordoer Heide nature reserve in south-west Schleswig-Holstein. Much of the area consists of inland dunes, heathland and dry grasslands surrounded by woodland and green spaces. These are grazed by Galloway cattle, Highland cattle, Exmoor ponies and goats to prevent scrub encroachment and keep existing woody vegetation in check. The same purpose is served by the weeding work your group will carry out. This involves removing non-native plants to preserve the unique flora and fauna of the inland dunes and heathland. In various areas, for example, you will make ponds more attractive to amphibians again by cutting back the shrub growth along the water’s edge, or improve or restore the habitat of rare plants and animals in the area.
You will also learn a great deal about the conservation of rare habitats, such as inland dunes and heathland, in both theory and practice.
Take the opportunity to play an active role in one of Schleswig-Holstein’s most valuable nature conservation areas and make a direct contribution to the preservation of unique species and habitats.

Your accommodation is the Itzehoe Waldorf School. It is closed during the summer holidays, so you can use two classrooms as dormitories. You will sleep on camp beds or air mattresses there, and shared showers and toilets are available in the same building. The kitchen is located in the annexe, where you can not only cook but also eat together if you wish. In addition, the bistro in another building is available for you to eat and relax. There is also plenty of space and various seating areas in the outdoor grounds.
You cater for yourselves and cook together. Money for shopping will be provided. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any intolerances when registering.

The Itzehoe Waldorf School is idyllically situated on the outskirts of the small town of Itzehoe. It takes just 15 minutes by bus to reach Itzehoe town centre with its charming little pedestrianised area. At the weekend, it’s well worth taking a trip to the North Sea coast or to Hamburg
