Worldwide Friends (WF), was founded in 2001 as a non-profit organization promoting nature and peace-oriented activities for volunteers wanting to spend some time in Iceland. Our main theme for this year is to give education about the 17 Sustainable Goals of the United Nations and to clean the whole coastline of Iceland. The main activities that we offer are workcamps, seminars, local events, and exchange programs suitable both for young people and adults.
İş Tanımı
Being in the Renovation Team you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside skilled foremen to support building houses and new structures for community use, renovating existing community buildings, and improving local infrastructure.
You will have the opportunity to witness the impact of your handiwork and on longer-term projects, you’ll be continuing the construction work of previous volunteers.
Our first priority in establishing this program is that it should always stem from the organization's and the local community's needs. For this reason, our activities may change depending on the local need at any given time.
You will travel around Iceland, as our houses are located at various sites across the island. We’re all about flexibility: we expect you to adapt to changes quickly and we encourage you to try new things.
The project sometimes will require you to take part as a Camp Leader; depending on the organization's needs you will have to help out by leading a workcamp. Organize and run programs for both short-term/long-term volunteers who will do 5 to 7 hours per day of environmental work during the weekdays. As a leader you will have to plan/organize a daily Workshop (from Monday to Thursday) giving a special focus on Global Warming, it can also be about other Environmental issues.

During the workcamps the leaders will share a double and quadruple room in a house fully equipped. Beds are provided, however, volunteers should bring their own warm sleeping bags.
Food is provided and everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. We provide a well-balanced and healthy variety of food products that includes a wide variety of whole grains, seasonal fruits & vegetables, pantry staples, dairy products, and vegetarian/vegan options.

Weekends are free, however, you will still need to be around. Try to plan activities with the volunteers. Usually, the excursions take place during the weekends. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such as waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava forests, hot springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam vents, or even icebergs.
The areas around the houses are also great for hiking. If volunteers want to go for a hike, make sure one of the camp leaders joins them. Remind the volunteers to share their plans in advance.
