Host organization Ikko is a non-political and non-religious folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international adult students and groups throughout the year. They also host special target groups such as students with special needs as well as asylum seekers. The volunteers can attend some Finnish language and culture lessons provided by school.

This camp will immerse the participants in Finnish winter and local traditions. If you need a break from your busy life, this camp is for you The camp will focus on wellbeing and deep dive into Finnish culture and nature as well as peer support and learning from each others. The volunteers will work with some seasonal tasks indoors and outdoors. One day will be spent making seal-friendly fish traps in order to protect the Saimaa seal which is an endangered species with only about 400 of them left. Otherwise this is not a traditional work camp and the emphasis is on intercultural learning. The volunteers will learn about many cultural aspects of Finland such as history, literature and music. You will also get to know about Kalevala, the Finnish national epic, which is celebrated in the day of Finnish culture at the end of February. Naturally volunteers are encouraged to present the culture of their countries as well.

Accommodation will be in dormitory or a cottage in shared rooms. All meals will be provided in the school canteen There are possibilities for various creative and other activities. Sauna is available as well.
Konum ve Serbest Zaman
Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes about four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a location of natural beauty, right on the magnificent Punkaharju ridges surrounded on both sides by lakes. The area offers many opportunities for nature and outdoor activities .The volunteers can experience skiing, skating, snow shoeing, ice fishing or ice swimming.
